KADEM organized a parallelactivity at the 61stsession of UN’s Commission on the Status of Women

KADEM has been following the sessions of UN’s Commission on the Status of Women for 4 years and organizing parallel activities. KADEM took part in the 61stsession of Commission on the Status of Women held by UN Women.

KADEM participated in the activity in which Fatma Betül Sayan, Minister of Family and Social Policies, emphasized the significance of democracy and political stability in order to strengthen women in all fields and stood behind our minister in her speech in which she put criticism against the inappropriate treatment she was exposed to in Holland.

KADEM’s Panel on “Economic Integration of Syrian Refugee Women in Turkey” at 61st session of UN.

KADEM organized a parallel activity named “Economic Integration of Syrian Refugee Women in Turkey” within the framework of the 61st session on March 18, 2017. Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Sare Aydın Yılmaz, KADEM Founding President, touched upon the current status of the refugees both in Turkey and the world and reviewed the activities regarding refugees conducted by KADEM up to now in the panel that took place at Church Center for the United Nations and moderated by Kılıç Buğra Kanat, SETA Washington representative.

President Sare Aydın Yılmaz expressed that the wars and immigration give the biggest damage to women and children; the women and children make the most of the refugees and thus, it is of great importance to strengthen the women.

“The very first step of all to strengthen refugee women economically is to be the accurate identification of the problems.” Aydın said. She also introduced Economic and Social Adaptation Profile Scan Project in İstanbul and Ankara and İstanbul Social Support Center Project in cooperation with AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency).

“Refugees issue is a political problem that proves the inadequacy of the world system for the protection of people. However, NGOs have responsibilities to settle these problems.” said Aydın.

Mehmet Halis Bilden, AFAD (Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency) reviewed the activities for refugees conducted by AFAD and the dimensions of the refugees issue in Turkey. Tuba Nur Sönmez, Advisor for President, voiced the economic integration activities and prospective plans of Turkey in the panel.

Panel on “The Role of Young Woman Leaders in Decision-Making”

Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Sare Aydın Yılmaz, KADEM Founding President, participated in the panel on “The Role of Young Woman Leaders in Decision-Making”organized by Organization of Islamic Cooperation on March 17, 2017. Aydın expressed that the policies do not reflect the actual needs of women unless they take part in decision-making mechanisms, and thus young women and leaders are to be backed in order them to involve in decision-making mechanisms.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Sare Aydın Yılmaz came together with Dr. Fadila Grine, General Secretary of Organization of Islamic Cooperation in the bilateral discussion following the panel and talked about the possible cooperation opportunities in the long run.
