1st Gender Justice Congress

The Gender Justice Congress was organized by KADEM under the coordination of the KADEM Journal of Women’s Studies and was held on March 6, 2015, at Istanbul Ticaret University’s Sütlüce Campus. The congress was convened with the aim of fostering new intellectual discussions on women’s issues, consolidating existing academic knowledge, and addressing gaps in the literature on women. Bringing together academics, researchers, and relevant stakeholders, the congress addressed the concept of gender justice from a multidimensional perspective.

The call for papers attracted significant interest, leading to an extension of the submission deadline, and more than 80 papers were evaluated by the Academic Review Committee. Selected papers were presented during the congress, which included opening speeches, three parallel sessions, and thematic discussions. Key topics covered included women’s position in social, academic, political, and economic life; discrimination in the workplace; women’s leadership; media; and cultural representations, all discussed within the framework of gender justice.

As an outcome of the congress, accepted abstracts were published in the congress booklet, selected papers were awarded, and full texts were subjected to peer review for publication in the KADEM Journal of Women’s Studies. Furthermore, the final declaration outlined the conceptual framework of gender justice, re-evaluated the relationship between equality and justice, and proposed policy recommendations aimed at strengthening women’s position in society.
