Dr. Fatmanur ALTUN
KADEM Board Member

Fatmanur Altun, who was born in Kocaeli in 1979, completed her university education at Sociology Department of Istanbul University Faculty of Literature. From 2002 to 2003 she was settled in USA to conduct research. She received her master’s degree at Marmara University Middle East and Islamic Countries Research Institute-Department of Sociology and Anthropology with the thesis titled “The Role of the Middle East Project Discourse in the Construction of Post-2000 Turkish Nationalism”.  In 2004, she started her PhD education at the same department. Altun has been working as a translator and editor since 2000 in the publishing sector. She worked as an editor in the Journal of Anlayış from 2005 to 2010, and as a columnist for Dunya Bulteni news portal from 2006 to 2011. Between 2009 and 2012, she took the position of a member of directors of AK Party Istanbul Provincial Administration. She was a member of the board of directors of Istanbul Metropolital Municipality Culture Inc. between 2012 and 2016 and has been working at Marmara University since 2015. Altun currently works as a Teaching Assistant in the Sociology Department of Marmara University, Altun has compilation and translation works. In addition to the seminars and lectures she has given on various platforms, she is also serves as a columnist for Fikriyat Newspaper, and as an advisory board member for the Lacivert Magazine.  She publishes articles regularly in various magazines, especially in Lacivert, and actively carries out civil society activities.  In addition to being a Board Member at the KADEM Foundation, Altun also holds office as a General Board Member of Turkish Education and Services to Youth Foundation, she speaks advanced level English, and good level of Arabic and Ottoman Turkish. Altun is married and she is mother of three sons and a daughter.
