At a panel organized by our foundation in New York as part of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, the impact of masculinity norms on family relationships and social violence was examined together with international experts.
The panel brought together academics and civil society representatives from various countries. Discussions focused on how masculinity norms shape family dynamics, the social patterns underlying violence, and the ways in which men can become partners in advancing social transformation.
Chair of the Board Sarı: Social Norms Must Be Rethought
Speaking at the panel, moderated by our Board Member Dr. Esra Özdil Gümüş, our Chair of the Board, Atty. Dr. Canan Sarı, emphasized the importance of rethinking social norms in order to build more just and peaceful societies. Highlighting that men can play a crucial role in preventing violence and strengthening healthy family structures, Sarı stated: “To build more just and peaceful societies, we must rethink social norms, and men are indispensable partners in this effort.”
Guided by its principle of “equality in existence, justice in responsibility,” KADEM continues its work on national and international platforms to strengthen women’s rights, support family well-being, and contribute to the prevention of violence.
