Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) held the 3rd of Gender Justice Congress with the theme of “Women and Family”.
KADEM organized The 3rd International Gender Justice Congress: Women and Family at İstanbul Commerce University Sütlüce Conference Hall on March 7, 2017. Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Sare Aydın Yılmaz, KADEM Founding President, Sümeyye Erdoğan Bayraktar Vice President of KADEM, Board Members, Prof. Dr. Nazım Ekren, İstanbul Commerce University Rector and a number of local and international academicians took also part in the congress.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. E. Sare Aydın Yılmaz, KADEM Founding President and İstanbul Commerce University Research and Application Center for Women and Family Director, and Prof. Dr. Nazım Ekren, İstanbul Commerce University Rector made the opening speeches of the congress as the hosts of the congress.
Following the opening of the congress, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Tekin, Head of Organization Committee, Nazife Şişman, Sociologist and Author, Prof. Dr. FaridSufian bin Shuaib and Prof. Dr. Sefa Saygılı made their speeches at the congress.
The situation and status of women in social, academic, political and economic arenas in Turkey within the framework of gender justice and under the theme of “Women and Family” were discussed through various perspectives at several sessions under the titles of Family and Marriage, Family Violence and Women, Family and Working Women, Family and Immigration, Family and Social Gender Roles, Historical and Spatial Analysis of Family, Family and Mass Communication, Family in Islam and Family between Modern and Traditional.
In the declarations submitted at the congress, formation of a transdisciplinary discussion platform that will allow the exchange of ideas globally with regards to the determination and support of the family status; setting the proper grounds for the discussion of the new pursuits intended to settle the challenges faced by women and families; negotiation of the policies pursued to support women and family in national and international levels as well as the need for the new strategies and practices were touched upon.
