March 14, 2016 – New York
Woman and Democracy Association (KADEM) attended the sixtieth session of United Nations’ (UN) Commission on the Status of Women (CSW60) on March 14, 2016 for presenting “Women in Innovation” project.
The topic of the session was announced as “Women’s empowerment and its link to sustainable development“, while KADEM’s project of Women in Innovation provides women who have ideas in the fields of technology and innovation with the opportunity to transform their ideas into solid business plans and with the necessary tools to become entrepreneurs.
The project brought actors from different sectors to combine their efforts and particular expertise for a successful result.
CSW60 took place at the UN Headquarters in New York and will continue until 24 March 2016. Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and ECOSOC-accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world attend the session.
The Commission’s annual session takes place every year at UN Headquarters with the participants in consultative status with UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
Usually held in March, the session provides an opportunity to review progress towards gender equality and the empowerment of women, identify challenges, set global standards and norms and formulate policies to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide.
The session is also a key opportunity for policy makers, advocates, researchers and activists to network and strategize, mobilize and plan new initiatives and actions to further the cause of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
