KADEM TO ADDRESS THE “FIGHT AGAINST STALKING” AT THE 67TH SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS COMMISSION ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN

This year, the Women and Democracy Association (KADEM) is participating in the 67th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York with a panel on “Raising Awareness on Digital Harassment: The Case of Stalking

The event which will take place at Salvation Army Auditorium at 12:30 hours on Friday, 10 March 2023 will be moderated by Nursem Keskin Aksay, Member of KADEM Board of Directors. In the panel, academician Sana Uddin (American University, Global Learning Kogod School of Business), Specialist Onur Dinçer (Turkish Ministry of Family and Social Services), will make presentations on digital violence and the fight against violence, each focusing on specific topics in their fields of expertise.

The panel will provide a space where Stalking and Digital Violence will be scrutinized from legal, judicial and social aspects, and legal regulations and implementation methods in Türkiye will be addressed in detail. Within this frame, the panelists will not only emphasize KADEM’s campaigns targeting change in social perception and behavior but also discuss innovative solutions.

Additionally, the panel draw attention to the awareness-raising campaign and the public service advertisement that were both parts of this year’s activities implemented by KADEM, which uses digital media as a dissemination tool in its campaigns for the elimination of violence against women, to address the relevant legal regulations within the scope of 25 November International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. Training modules prepared on violence against women and disseminated through representative offices across Türkiye will also be introduced to the panel participants.

Moreover, KADEM Delegation, which is in New York within the scope of the 67th Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, will organize a “Networking Event” where it will come together with individuals and non-governmental organizations active in the field of women’s rights in the USA.

With the event to be held between 13.30 and 15.00 hours on 8 March 2023 at the Turkish House in New York, the Association aims to get to know individuals and non-governmental organizations working in the field of women, introduce KADEM, exchange good practice examples, strengthen KADEM’s international network, and develop potential international collaborations for the future.
