The Research Project on Problems Faced by Women Working in the Service Sector and Obstacles to their Promotion

This research project aims at demonstrating the problems faced by women working in schools, hospitals and banks in various provinces in Turkey as well as the difficulties they face during their career. With this objective, research was conducted for 12 months with the involvement of 2,040 women serving in the 306 organizations from three sectors (schools, hospitals, banks). As a result of this research made in cooperation with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies and the World Bank, and supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), the Research Report on “the Problems Faced by Women Working in the Service Sector and Obstacles to their Promotion” was presented to the public. The results of the research were published in a book entitled “The Glass Ceiling Syndrome in Turkey: Women in the Service Sector”. The study conducted by Prof. Dr. Ömer Çaha, Associate Prof. Dr. Havva Çaha, Asst. Prof. Dr. E. Sare Aydın Yılmaz demonstrated the problems faced by women in business.
